Hurricane Katrina was the singular environmental event that exposed the premediated imperialist un-natural disaster against the residents of the majority Black City of New Orleans. The levees were not maintained, the Lower 9th Ward, all Black, was most vulnerable. The privatizers, gentrifiers, and genociders were waiting in the wings to drive more than 100,000 Black residents out of the city into a frightening future. The goal was a whiter, richer Southern Planation economy.

In this two volume book; Katrina‘s Legacy: the Black Nation and the People of the World Confront the U.S. white settler state and its genocidal climate crimes, Volume one was written a year after Hurricane Katrina and Volume 2 was written on the 10th anniversary.

Volume 1

Katrina‘s Legacy is framed by the strategy of the Black nation and shaped by the perspectives of frontline organizers in New Orleans—Beverly Wright, Curtis Muhammad, Akali Kuno, and dozens of others.

Volume 2

In volume II it expands the narrative to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris 2015, where Manuel Criollo, Barbara Lott-Holland, Channing Martinez, Ashley Franklin were part of a movement to confront the Obama administration. Obama and John Kerry attacked Third World Initiatives demanding “losses and damages” as a form of climate reparations.

The struggle continues as anti-Black, Anti-African politics are endemic to U.S. imperialism.

The Katrina Story is one of hope for a Black Reconstruction all over the world.
