The Racist Police State is a Cancerous Hydra—you cut off one head and it grows back two

As the Movement Wins a $25 million Reduction in the Los Angeles School Police the MTA Plans to Attack Black and Latinx students, adults and families with a Racist plan to Expand its Police State by $110 Million. Cut down arrests of Blacks at the schools, MTA says, “We must increase attacks on Black students on the buses and trains.”

The Racist Police State is a Cancerous Hydra—you cut off one head and it grows back two

Let’s be Clear—there is virtually no “crime” on MTA Buses and Trains, it’s just Black and Latinx people subjected to police brutality, COVID extreme, unemployment, evictions being attacked by the MTA Plantation Police for eating food, drinking, putting feet on chairs, loud noises, being too quiet, and the worst crime of all, Using Public Transportation While Black.  The MTA has made “inability to pay” the MTA’s ridiculous $1.75 one way or $100 a month—thanks to Mayor Garcetti and Mark Ridley Thomas who led the fare increases a crime of “fare evasion” when it is the MTA board members who are evading any sense of morality.

  • The MTA as always can’t keep it word. The Bus Riders Union met with MTA CEO Phil Washington 2 months ago on a one hour zoom call in which he pledged
  • To move towards free, aka “fare-less” transit
  • To stop ticketing for “fare evasion’ since COVID itself was preventing fare collection
  • To stop policies that target Black passengers (Why were they there in the first place?)
  • To demilitarize and de-escalate the police presence and consider using un-armed civilians on the trains and buses

Now, as the Strategy Center and Bus Riders Union comes back from a great victory to move $39 million to Black students (great appreciation to the LAUSD Board, great appreciation to Students Deserve and our many coalitional allies) we find out that the MTA tomorrow morning Thursday, February 17 at 9 AM, will be voting for “contract modifications (that is raises) for $6.8 million to the Long Beach Police, LA City LAPD for $60 million, and LA County Sheriffs for $44 million.

On top of this, when we thought we had an agreement with the LAPD to “stop the stops” they are now again arresting Black drivers.

Broken promises, broken treaties, broken hearts but the police are heartless as are the Democratic elected officials who enthusiastically sanction their brutality.

The U.S. is anti-Black, and so is the MTA.

The Slave Catchers have a quota of Black arrests and brutalities every day. If we cut the School police budget by $25 million, the MTA increases the Long Beach, LAPD, and LA Sheriffs budgets by $110 million. Let’s be clear, the MTA is anti-Black to the max, more than 60% of all arrests and citations on MTA buses and trains are inflicted upon Black Passengers even thought they are only 19% of the total ridership.
